Whitney Houston was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New Jersey. She was an American singer, actress, producer, and model.
At age 11, Whitney started to perform solos in a gospel choir at a church. She later was asked to sing backup for people such as Chaka Kahn and Lou Rawls. She began her modeling career in the 1980s and made the cover of Seventeen Magazine. Shortly after, Houston signed a contract with Arista Records.
Whitney passed away at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11, 2012.
